A Jewish Singer With 15+ Years on Stage

I’m Cory Hecht, a Jewish singer, beatboxer and audio engineer based in Bondi, with more than fifteen years in Jewish a cappella. I’ve been a performing member of The Maccabeats since 2017, touring with them across the US and Canada, Chile and Australia. I’m the former music director of the Y-Studs and now their tour manager when they travel internationally, most recently to Germany, and I’m a former member of Shir Soul, with whom I toured England. I’ve performed for President and First Lady Obama at the White House, sung with Josh Groban and Ilan Kidron, and opened for Howie Mandel. With my college group, Tizmoret, I won the Kol HaOlam Jewish a cappella competition in 2015, and I’ve since been invited back to judge it.

In Sydney I direct the B’nai B’rith Riffers, a community Jewish a cappella group, and I’ve run live sound for Central Synagogue, Chabad of Bondi and Cantor Shai Abramson. I bring that experience to bar and bat mitzvahs, weddings, Shabbatons and community events, as your performer, your sound engineer, or both.

What I Bring to Your Event

  • Live vocals: Jewish and contemporary songs, solo or with a group
  • A cappella and beatboxing that gets the whole room involved
  • Live sound: speakers, microphones and a mixing desk, so every speech, bracha and song is heard clearly
  • Music direction for groups and choirs

Events I Work

  • Bar and bat mitzvahs
  • Weddings and engagement parties
  • Shabbatons and community celebrations
  • Synagogue and school events
  • Shabbat singing, Kabbalat Shabbat services and Shabbaton programs

Based in Bondi, I work across Sydney, from the Eastern Suburbs to the North Shore, and I’m available to travel for events further afield. See and hear my work, or tell me about your simcha.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Ask Me Anything

Yes. I sing in Hebrew and English, and I’m always adding to my Jewish repertoire. If there’s a particular song you’d like, let me know and I’ll see if I can accommodate it.

Yes, in a way that keeps Shabbat. I’m shomer Shabbat, so on Shabbat and Yom Tov I don’t use microphones, amplification or any electronics, and I don’t run sound. I’m happy to lead Shabbat singing and Kabbalat Shabbat services, or run beatbox and music workshops taught by rote.

During the week, in many cases, yes. Get in touch and we’ll work out what suits your event best.

Yes. For weekday events I bring speakers, microphones, a mixing desk and everything else needed for great sound.

Yes. I’m based in Bondi and available to travel for events.
